Planting Flower Gardens

The kids only have through half of next week before they're out of school. I still can't get over how close summer is.

The fireman and I have been busy working on our flower gardens. I know, the plan was to do the fence next, but we got ahold of a garden tiller and didn't want to lose the chance to use it for free. Also, part of my Mother's Day gifts were all these pretty flowers.

So, the above planter is one of our pretty porch plants. I just plant annuals in these. That way I can change it up and add some pretty splashes of color each year. Gives me something to mess with.

Life, movies and gardening

With the girl gone, the fireman and I have been going to see movies, out to eat and spending more quality time together when the boys are at their mom's. It's been a lot of fun. I miss her a lot, but it's nice having some one on one time with the hubby.

Last Friday, the fireman was at work, and I went to see Harry Potter by myself. It was great! Oddly enough, I always thought it'd be weird to go to a movie by myself, but it totally wasn't. I loved every minute of it. Great ending!

Birthday Boy

Last night, we finally got to party with the youngest boy, for his 14th birthday! He wanted to go to Buffalo Wild Wings and it was kids night, so there was a balloon guy there. The girl was soooo excited and got a flower and the youngest boy, he was young enough for the night to go with an alien balloon. It fit it's arms around his head and sat on his shoulders with green balloon legs sticking out near his face.

Hilarious.

He's only going to enjoy things like this a few more times. I'm surprised he let himself feel young last night. Middle boy was already old enough not to want a fun shaped balloon, on his head or otherwise.

The Roof and More

Hubby called me on Friday and said that he called to see if our shingles were in yet and they said that they weren't supposed to be in until the 6th. Wait, what?

So, we took our recent which states that they should be in on the 27th and returned them. Got our money back and went back to Home Depot to get the original shingles that we wanted.
Remember these? The original choice? Yes, actually as time went on I was second guessing the other shingles and wanted these instead. So, it all worked out.

What's up

The girl and the middle boy have to get a filling today. This is sad for three reasons, first of all, they will be hurting (awe), secondly it will cost money (yipes), thirdly they will be in an awful mood for the next 4 hours or so (groan).

I talked to hubby this morning about a vegetable garden. We were going to wait till next year to finish the backyard, but I thought it wouldn't take much work to till out a small garden this year. Enough to have tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, bell peppers and squash. Not a ton, just some. Hubby is very industrial. He says, "Well, it wouldn't take much to go ahead and make some raised beds." I'm up for that. So, we'll just do enough for this year, we can always add on next year. I'm excited!

Still haven't decided about railing for the porch or decided what do do about the roof. We need to nail down some answers there so we can move along.
