The Wall

You will not believe how difficult it was to download this picture. I posted earlier about how I decided to paint my own wall mural. I picked out different ideas online and put them together in my own way. I drew it out and have a file full of other details and inspiration to look at while I'm painting.

But this is the base.

I scanned in my drawing and it wouldn't open on blogger. I don't know why. So I did what any other self respecting blogger would do.

I took a picture of it.

I know the detail isn't great, but I will adjust that as I go. I mainly wanted to get the tree done and the whole feel of it together.
Basically, what I wanted it to say.

The leaves that I just sketched out very roughly will prob be a stencil so that I can play with colors. THe tree will be heavy dark brown lines with light brown base and some dark purple accenting the lines. This is all about the whimsy. I want dark, rich colors and a bright, fun feel.

There are small coffee cups hanging from the curly branches. They will all be unique and different. I am painting small hummingbirds, butterflies and dragonflies to fly around and maybe drink out of the coffee cups.

Also, there's an owl, his rough shape is sketched out on one of the top left branches. He's going to be way cool. Uber cool, even.

I'm going to have a few random leaves blowing across the wall and maybe a random butterfly or whatever. Just to bring the picture out on the wall some.

I also decided since we need a chair rail, to go with a cool wrought iron rod and hubby and I commissioned a local blacksmith to make wall connectors that are pounded into leaves to attach the rod to the wall. So, when you look at the picture, imagine a long iron rod right around the height of the bottom leaves.

I purposely made the tree's roots exposed and trailing out so that the wall had something else below the rod for embellishment. Otherwise the wall would be heavy on top and it would look a little....naked.

Maybe that's just me.

Anyway, give me your opinion. I'm interested.

Wow! Just...wow! That is going to be GORGEOUS. I, personally, love the exposed roots. There are some ancient oaks in my parents' yard with roots like that so it feels very authentic to me.

Kudos to you, Jen. Color me seriously impressed. And jealous. But mostly impressed. :)

Really? That's so sweet! Honestly, I was a little unsure that it was right. I appreciate your enthusiasm. I just hope the painting goes as easy as the drawing...

I really love the roots...

Oh, and the blacksmith called and our brackets are ready, so I can see them before I start painting, incase I need to tweak something.
